Blue for for various reasons… The sky’s and ocean blues perfectly contrasting with the ruins of a historic lighthouse built in 1889 by Spanish. A place popular among photographers, history, architecture and beauty in perfect harmony serves as the perfect backdrop for wedding shots and landscape scene and sunset views.

When you visit here, you may end up feeling a bit blue inside for the abandonment of what ought to be a preserved historic site in Porta del Sol. Please contact our government and tourism offices to voice your opinions on preservation. More about Punta Borinquen Lighthouse in Aguadilla.

Just about anyone I speak to from my home town of Cabo Rojo says “Ahh, Buye”, when I speak of Playa Buye. This beach is nothing like a typical resort lined beach, this is one is a beach loved by locals, and one that retirees from the USA choose for it’s affordable condominiums community. The feeling is a bit more rugged, with privately managed cheap cabanas and a small snack shop. What we love about Buye is the turquoise tones of the water…. if you’re facing the water, take a walk along the beach to the right and you’ll find very pretty secluded spots with leaning palm trees, and glass like clear shallow waters perfect for kids to play.

After a fun day exploring the coast of Guanica in Porta del Sol, we drive by the plaza to be surprised by this breathtaking postcard perfect sunset. Each minute the colors kept getting stronger, by the end of the sunset, it looked as there was Fire in the Water.

We love Guanica for it’s dry forest, secluded bays, but our favorite place is Cayo Afuera; also known as Gilligan’s Island. Just a short ferry ride from the town of Guanica you enjoy crystal clear shallow and warm waters surr0unded by mangroves and a gentle current great for snorkeling and floating under the sun. Gilligan’s is our Tiny Piece of Tropical Heaven
